The BBC has announced that it will be dropping the hCalendar microformat from its website following accessibility concerns. It’s a major blow for microformats and I’d hope they’ll find a solution soon.
The UK Government has issued an initial consultation document on delivering inclusive websites in order to meet European objectives for inclusive e-government. By December 2008, all .gov.uk websites must adhere to W3C guidelines level AA.
It seems that a proportion of the web development community is rigidly stuck back in 1998. If only those developers would put the same amount of passion into supporting web standards and accessibility as they do complaining about it!
