Another answer to the Web2.0 question

If you have ever asked “just what is Web2.0?”, then this video is for you…
How great is that?!
My opinion: Web2.0 is simply a marketing term. Many web developers hate it, but it’s a useful way to describe any online application that offers content creation, tagging, collaboration, or AJAX. And shiny logos with reflections also count. Ahem.
AJAX has become a marketing word too. Strictly speaking, it should only apply to client-side applications that use JavaScript to asynchronously communicate with a server that’s returning an XML response. However, the term is used no matter how the client communicates or how the message is encoded. What’s worse is that any animation, text scrolling, or fancy effects are often referred to AJAX when it’s really DOM scripting or Dynamic HTML (DHTML). Or an animated GIF.
All this inaccurate terminology horrifies the experts - especially those who have to sit through marketing presentations! But, assuming that the web designer and the client both understand what they mean by Web2.0 or AJAX, then it doesn’t really matter how the words are used.
